LUNCH (#842)

Ahoy,

I recently reached more than 200 k scrobbles. :)

Scrobble count:  200.027

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Shaznay Lewis : New album context. "Pages" feels like out of time.

• Madonna : Fan times.

• Lady Gaga : Fan times.

• Pet Shop Boys : Fan times. And also flashback times, because I went through some previous releases - looking for a fun song, that could be used on a parade.

Most played tracks:

• SHOKI - Filme : Those explicit lyrics, yo. ^^ I admit, that the vibe feels a bit trashy. But I like the empowerment aspect.

Noteworthy:

• Troye Sivan : New release context. Mura Masa created three remixes of his album track "Honey". And I was looking for the best one.

• Kiesza : New release context. Her EP "Dancing and Crying Vol. 1" adds a few more tracks to previous releases - "Strangers" and "Go Back". "Strangers" comes with another western inspired music video - a 9th chapter to be specific.

• Sheryl Crow : Fan times.
• Peaches : Research context. I went through some tracks of "The Teaches Of Peaches" to look for tracks, that could be used for a party.

News

█ The media seem to encourage some kind of beef between Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish - but no one forced Eilish to state, that a 3 hour concert is psychotic. And team Swift publishing new editions of the latest album "The Tortured Poets Department" to make them count in the charts is also a strange move.

Love Bites (#841)

Ahoy,

this week I turned to a few more familiar tracks...

Scrobble count:  199.919

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross : Research context. So I went through their score for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem" - and I wasn't as hooked as with their work for "Challengers".

• Peaches : Research context. Some years went by since she released an album. So I checked out "Rub", which has its moments. But maybe I should continue to listen to "The Teaches Of Peaches", which seems to have had a greater impact. And I could understand the associated documentary better.

• Billie Eilish : New album context. "HIT ME HARD AND SOFT" may be something for fans - but I did not have much fun listening to it.

• Pet Shop Boys : Fan times and new release context. Just after "Nonetheless" they released an EP called "Furthermore" with new versions of classic hits. Some things even work for me - for instance "It's A Sin - New Version".

Most played tracks:

• Purple Disco Machine & Benjamin Ingrosso - Honey Boy (feat. Nile Rodgers & Shenseea) : I had this track on repeat - and it is so much fun. Although I have to say that I do not really like the new "Extended Version".

Noteworthy:

• Stray Kids : Flashback times.

• Agust D : Fan times.

• Kiesza : Mark my words: her 2024 output has been nothing but astonishing - so far.

News

█ Black Eyed Peas releaded a new song for the upcoming fourth Bad Boys film - and it samples Phil Collins. Yikes.

█ For her new single Nelly Furtado collaborated with Tove Lo and SG Lewis. "Love Bites" sounds different compared to her hit songs. But it might find its audience.

Honey Boy (#840)

Ahoy,

what a funny time that two artists arguing over tracks can influence some charts like that.

Scrobble count:  199.669

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Jesse Glynne : New album context. "Jess" might feature many songs and different vibes, but I would call it a good album tbh.

• Fat White Family : New album context. "Forgiveness Is Yours" did not convince me at all. Not my cup of tea.

• Pet Shop Boys : Fan times plus new album context. "Nonetheless" has a few nice tunes. I haven't analyzed the lyrics yet, though. I can't tell, if I will find any other highlight track besides "Loneliness".

Most played tracks:

• Purple Disco Machon & Benjamin Ingrosso - Honey Boy (feat. Nile Rodgers & Shenseea) : What a pop gem!
• METTE - BET : Also definitely a bop of the moment for me.
• 6euroneunzig - Zur Party : A nice banger with a special sample.

Noteworthy:

• Dua Lipa : Fan times.

• Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross : Challengers score hype.

News

█ This year's Eurovision Song Contest generated buzz, because Joost Klein (Netherlands) got kicked out of the final. The new winner is called Nemo (from Switzerland).

█ Megan Thee Stallion released a new single, that comes with a familiar tune. "BOA" has a sample of Gwen Stefani's 2004 song "What You Waiting For?", that was a first release for her first solo album. Of course, the new Megan package includes a fancy big budget music video, which seems to have been inspired by popular computer games. She also started her tour - including a big production stage.

【10】 Kendrick Lamar - Not Like Us : Some bars and a sample - sometimes that seems to be enough. Plus lyrics disrespecting some other big artist.

Billboard 200 (USA) - week of May 18

Challengers (#839)

Ahoy,

catching up a bit...

Scrobble count:  199.563

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross : Hype context. So I've finally watched "Challengers" in the cinema - and it felt like being hypnotized. And the score made me smile. It's been a while since a soundtrack had that impact on me. And though I prefer the regular version of the tracks, the second edition with mixed versions by Boys Noize sounds also good.

• Emilio : Curiosity context. Yikes, I'm wondering, what kind of fan can enjoy "Blessings".

• Dua Lipa : Fan times and new album alert. "Radical Optimism" has not that much to offer, since all the good tracks have been released as pre-singles. But maybe I will change my mind after the concert in June.

Most played tracks:

• Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross - Challengers : S
• Untraceable Records - Shitting in the shower : That AI generated track sound so funny and catchy at the same time.

Noteworthy:

• Porij : New album context. Tbh I was disappointed by "Teething". "You Should Know Me" is clearly the best song on it.

• Madonna : Fan times.
• Paola & Chiara : Fan/flashback times.
• Future & Metro Boomin : Research context for all the buzz around their release "WE DON'T TRUST YOU".
• Beyoncé : New album context. I just tried a few tracks of her latest release "COWBOY CARTER".

News

█ Kendrick Lamar released a new song, that generated some buzz. After his feature part on "Like That" by Future & Metro Boomin, his new solo track "Euphoria" gets called Drake diss track. It almost reached the top ten of Billboard's Hot 100. The beef between those Hip-Hop artists seems to have reached another level in late 2023 - and might have started between 2011 and 2013. And the story seems to continue with new releases like "6:16 in LA" (by Lamar) and "Family Matters" (by Drake). "Family Matters" sounds like three songs in 7 minutes. But put the production aside and the content could also work as a school fight - rappers accusing each other.

█ Madonna ended her Celebration Tour with a free concert in Rio (Brazil) - on Star Wars Day - and 1.6 million people had a party on the beach. Diplo, Anitta and Pablo Vittar also joined her.

New entries

Billboard 200 (USA) - week of May 11
