You Right (#689)

Ahoy,

another look at last week's stats and stuff.

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Normandie : Fan times. I think you can easily pick one of their studio albums and you might get surprised by their range of sounds.
  • The Fray : Workout context. I was listening to "Helios" and "How To Save A Life", which are still good albums.
  • James : New album context. "All The Colours Of You" sounds nice.
  • MARINA : New album context. I can't remember enjoying a MARINA album as much as "Ancient Dreams In A Modern Land".
  • Sleater-Kinney : New album context. Tbh I did not like "Path Of Wellness" very much.

Most played tracks:

  • John Mayer - Last Train Home : This will be featured on my best of playlist this year. I really like this 80s vibe. :)
  • Fabian Friend - Brand New : Fan times. (Even though the artist only has two singles.)

Noteworthy:

  • Garbage : Fan times.
  • Razz : New release context. Their new EP "Might Delete Later" seems a bit softer than previous releases, but some tracks are very good.

News

█ Natalie Imbruglia made a comeback. Her new song "Build It Better" is the first pre-single for her upcoming album "Firebird". The happy tune comes with a colorful music video, that could be part of a musical film.

█ Ed Sheeran's new single "Bad Habits" might top the charts soon, as its label did so much to hype that track. The pink vampire concept seems nice, but the music video looks weird.

█ Doja Cat has released a new high production value music video with The Weeknd as feature guest. "You Right" is part of her new album "Planet Her".

█ Giant Rooks are feature guests on RIN's new single "Insomnia". It seems odd to hear Frederic sing German for a change. The video comes with a nice Summer scenery.

New entries

Album charts (Germany)

[01] Azet - Neue Welt : Hmkay.

[02] Crystal F - Das Leben danach : Who?

[03] Maeckes - Pool : This one is still on my list...

[05] Joe Bonamassa - New Serving Royal Tea Live From The Ryman : Who?

[06] Garbage - No Gods No Masters : Yay.

[09] Bosse - Wartesaal : A re-entry - with a new peak position.

Single charts (Germany)

[02] Måneskin - Beggin : Wow. The second top ten track - from an album, that was released in 2017. I still can remember the original version. (But maybe even that was a cover.)

[08] PA Sports x Kianush x Jamule - Shawty : No, thanks. :-/

[09] Justin Wellington - Iko Iko (My Bestie) [feat. Small Jam] : Hell no! We don't need another new version of that tune. :( As the video dates back to 2017, I can be pretty sure, this success is social media infused.

Albums Chart Top 100 (UK)

[01] Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds - Back The Way We Came - Vol. 1 : Wow.

[03] Polo G - Hall Of Fame : Who?

[05] Garbage - No Gods No Masters : Yay.

[06] Bo Burnham - Inside (The Songs) : Really? Hmkay.

[07] Jessie Ware - What's Your Pleasure? : Yay for "The Platinum Pleasure Edition".

[06] TWICE - Taste Of Love: The 10th Mini Album (EP) : Wow! Another lesser known K-Pop group, that easily entered the top ten.

[07] Bo Burnham - Inside (The Songs) : Wow.

[08] Maroon 5 - Jordi : Okay.

Billboard Hot 100 (USA) - week of June 26

[no relevant changes - pop music is still ruling]

Brand New (#688)

Ahoy,

it may be another Music Monday, but this entry (once again) refers to my last week...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Genesis : Recommendation context. So not only did I listen to two live albums of 1992 and 1993 but also to their 8th studio record "Wind & Wuthering", which came out 1976. It was an experience, but I like the newer stuff more.
  • Greentea Peng : New album context. Sorry, but I had a hard time running through "MAN MADE". :(
  • Frank Turner : Workout context. I was listening to "Last Minutes & Lost Evenings", which seemed nice.
  • Todrick Hall : New album context. "FEMULINE" is full of party bangers.

Most played tracks:

  • Fabian Friend - Brand New : Yay, his second single continues the charming indie sound. :)
  • John Mayer - Last Train Home : Fan times. :)

Noteworthy:

  • Garbage : New album context. "No Gods No Masters" should please all fans, because of its retro vibes.
  • Sharktank : New album context. "Get It Done" has its moments, but I expected more.
  • King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard : New album context. "Butterfly 3000" was recommended to me. And in comparison to other songs by this band here you have some great melodic rock tracks.
  • Telquist : New album context. Tbh I did not like "Wild Haired" very much.
  • Elder Island : New album context. "Swimming Static" has many nice tracks.
  • Japanese Breakfast : New album context. Tbh I think I should give "Jubilee" another try.

Scrobble count:  174.305

News

█ Lorde released her comeback single "Solar Power". I was expecting a heavier beat, but at least the music video looks nice.

█ Jake Shears's new song "Do The Television" comes with a flashy music video full of TV and film clips. I like his return to pop sounds.

New entries

Album charts (Germany)

[01] No Angels - 20 : Yikes.

[02] Rise Against - Nowhere Generation : Okay.

[04] Billy F Gibbons - Hardware : Who? (Nice album title though.)

[07] Monika Martin - 25 Jahre - Ihre größten Erfolge : Hmkay.

[09] Flotsam And Jetsam - Blood In The Water : Who?

Single charts (Germany)

[01] Olivia Rodrigo - Good 4 u : Well, she made it... over here. But hey, the song is one of the best of her debut album, if you ask me.

[03] Beatzarre & Djorkaeff x Lea x Capital Bra -Sommer : Uhm, despite the 80s production this song has quite cheesy lyrics.

[07] Måneskin - I Wanna Be Your Slave : In its 7th week this one jumps into the top ten.

[08] Luciano - Drilla : What a strange track.

[10] Wes Nelson - Nice To Meet Ya (feat. Yxng Bane) : Hm, at least they don't seem to take it too seriously.

Albums Chart Top 100 (UK)

[01] Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend : Okay.

[03] James - All The Colours Of You : Wow. Nice.

[05] Lil Baby & Lil Durk - The Voice Of The Heroes : Hmkay.

Billboard 200 (USA) - week of June 19

[01] Lil Baby & Lil Durk - The Voice Of The Heroes : Wow.

[05] TOMORROW X TOGETHER - The Chaos Chapter : FREEZE : Wow! This came unexpected.

Billboard Hot 100 (USA)

[10] Bad Bunny - Yonaguni : Well, you won't find many non-English songs, that peak this high.

Last Train Home (#687)

Ahoy,

I almost had this one finished earlier. ^^

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Kele : New album context. I can't say, how I made it through "The Waves Pt. 1", because that album felt pretty boring to me.
  • TOMORROW X TOGETHER : New album context. "The Chaos Chapter : FREEZE" fits perfectly in their discography. And it has a few bops.
  • Brodka : New album context. My expectations for "BRUT" were not met. :-/

Most played tracks:

  • John Mayer - Last Train Home : (Happy) Fan times. Ooh, he got me with this 80s style intro already. :) The un-credited guest vocals come from Maren Morris.  (If only the music video was better.)

Noteworthy:

  • Olivia Rodrigo : New album context. Sorry, but I did not like most of "SOUR" - the only songs, I would recommend, are "good 4 u" and "brutal".
  • Herrenmagazin : Workout context. I was listening to "Das Ergebnis wäre Stille", which seems still pretty solid to me, when it comes to German indie tunes.
  • GusGus : New album context. I enjoyed the electronic sounds of "Mobile Home".
  • Thirteen Senses : Fan times. But tbh it was hard for me to enjoy "A Strange Encounter". I think, I just don't like that album.
  • Alfie Templeman : New album context. "Forever Isn't Long Enough" was fun to listen to.
  • FM Attack : New album context. "The Never Ending" sounds nice.

Scrobble count:  174.031

News

█ John Mayer announced his next album "Sob Rock" - to be released on July 16. Unfortunately the track list is just ten songs short - and includes three already released singles (from 2018 and 2019). He will tour the US with Dead & Company in August until October.

█ Dua Lipa released new music. There's a nice soundtrack song called "CAN THEY HEAR US" - from a film called "Gully". And then there's the new music video for "Love Again", which comes with an odd theater cowgirl theme.

█ Todrick Hall takes the chance to release a new album in Pride month. "FEMULINE" comes filled with colorful dance songs - and feature guests like Chaka Khan, Brandy and Tyra Banks. His latest music video "RAININ' FELLAS" come with a cameo by Lance Bass and lots of nudity. The song could become the next anthem for LQBTQ+ groups.

New entries

[01] K.I.Z. - Rap über Hass : Okay.

[02] Die Prinzen - Krone der Schöpfung : Okay.

[09] JEREMIAS - Golden Hour : Cool.

Single charts (Germany)

[01] Loredana & Mozzik - Rosenkrieg : Ugh, no, thanks.

[07] Capo - Ghettogirl : Who is this? The production sounds nice, but the lyrics don't give me anything. Seems like a Capital Bra clone.

Albums Chart Top 100 (UK)

[02] Easy Life - Life's A Beach : Okay.

[03] Texas - Hi : Wow, they are still that popular.

[04] Taylor Swift - Evermore : In its 25th week it enters the top ten again. Strange.

0X1=LOVESONG (#686)

Ahoy,

a bit more on time with this week's entry...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Madonna : Fan times. I found a remix of "I Don't Search I Find" very entertaining - it's the Kue Remix, that has a retro disco vibe.
  • Lea Porcelain : New album context. So "Choirs To Heaven" is out now... but I'm not sure how much I dig it tbh.
  • Aly & AJ : Fan times.
  • Goo Goo Dolls : Flashback times. I was listening to the complete album "Something For The Rest Of Us" - and I still like it a lot.
  • Jazmine Sullivan : Hype context. I've read two positive reviews of "Heaux Tales", so I thought I should give it a go. But no, the music is not my cup of tea. Very old school R&B.

Most played tracks:

  • BTS - Butter : Compared to the first official (Hotter) remix, I like the original version better. :)

Noteworthy:

  • Easy Life : New album context. Unfortunately I did not have a good time listening to "life's a beach". :-/
  • J. Cole : New album (and hype) context. Tbh "The Off-Season" is so not my cup of tea.
  • Livingmore : New album context. "Take Me" starts strong, but the last tracks seemed a bit weak. I guess, I'll give it another try soon.
  • Twenty One Pilots : New album context. "Scaled And Icy" seemed (just) okay.

Scrobble count:  173.793

News

█ TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) had a comeback with "The Chaos Chapter : FREEZE", which is the latest mini album. It comes with "0X1=LOVESONG", a very surprising and catchy pop song, that has a nice music video.

█ Curtis Harding's latest single "Hopeful" is a wonderful piece of music.

Butter (#685)

Ahoy,

late, I know...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Maurice Summen : Recommendation and new album context. "PayPalPop" seems like a nice mix of HGich.T and Alligatoah. But I think it gets difficult, when you listen to more than five songs in a row. ^^
  • Wincent Weiss : New album context. Yes, sometimes I like to dive deep into mainstream productions. But as I've already forgotten most of "Vielleicht irgendwann", I can live happily ever after... ;)
  • Fallulah : Workout context. Her 2013 album "Escapism" seemed okay.

Most played tracks:

  • Leo Fifty Five - Honnêtement (feat. Jaïa Rose) : What a bop. Unfortunately I haven't found any lyrics. So understanding seems a bit hard. :-/
  • BTS - Butter : Fan times. There we have it. The new hit song by the most successfull KPop group these days. Let's see what kind of records it can break. On the other side I like it more than "Dynamite", but still would like to have deeper lyrics.
  • What So Not - The Change (feat. DMA'S) : I guess, this might turn up on my best of 2021 playlist.

Noteworthy:

  • Mine : I guess I need to listen to "HINÜBER" one more time. I still couldn't get my head around it.
  • Aly & AJ : Fan times. (There - I said it.)
  • Garbage : Fan times. Plus flashback context.
  • Flogging Molly : Workout context. Yup, I had some "Speed Of Darkness" playing. ;)
