So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth (#607)

Hi,

I might be late once more, but the stats are from Monday... so...

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Céline Dion : New album alert. Sorry, but most of "Courage" felt boring to me.
  • Milky Chance : New album alert. Unfortunately I can't recommend "Mind The Moon". :(
  • Apache 207 : Hype context. I still like his album.
  • Lil Nas X : Nomination context. I can't understand, why an EP like "7" gets nominated in an album category. The duration of all the songs is below 20 minutes!
  • Blaue Blume : Try "Bell Of Wool", if you're looking for mellow indie tunes.

Most played artists:

  • Vampire Weekend : Nomination context. So I went through "Father Of The Brides" and it was okay.
  • Beck : New album alert. "Hyperspace" seems like a fun compilation. Try it.
  • Coldplay : New album alert. Tbh "Everyday Life" did not impress me. "Arabesque" still remains an interesting comeback song, though.

Most played tracks:

  • Grimes - So Heavy I Fell Through The Earth (Algorithm Mix) : A lovely tune.

News?

█ HAIM's new song/video "Hallelujah" is just amazingly beautiful. And for me it marks the first time that each member has her own part.
█ The 2019 American Music Awards took place and it was a massive show as always. Taylor Swift is now the queen of the AMAs with a record breaking number of wins. Some performances were nice, but most of them felt over the top - as usual.
█ And the German album charts are ruled by Silbermond ("Schritte"), while Céline Dion's new album only reached number four.

New in the German charts:

[07] The Cratez x Bausa x Maxwell - Skifahren (feat. Joshi) : OK, I have to admit that the beat sounds good. But all the talent gets wasted for just another stupid track about wealth, drugs and women. What a shame!
[09] Billie Eilish - Everything I Wanted : Oh, look. It seems the artist can proove now, that she is not a one-hit-wonder.

Watermelon Sugar (#606)

Hi,

sorry for the (usual) delay...

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • CHVRCHES : Fan times.
  • Augustines : Fan times.
  • Christina Aguilera : I still think that "Bionic" was a bit underrated.
  • Nicki Minaj : Fan times.
  • Will Young : Fan times.
  • Annie Lennox : Fan times.

Most played artists:

  • Céline Dion : New album alert. Tbh after listening to all 20 songs of "Courage" I feel a little disappointed.
  • Pet Shop Boys : Fan times.
  • The War On Drugs : Fan times.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

News?

█ The Pet Shop Boys released a new single to promote their upcoming album "Hotspot". "Burn The Heather" sounds very simple and comes with a beautiful lyric video.
█ Harry Styles made a comeback on Saturday Night Live, where he hosted and performed new songs from his upcoming second solo album. "Fine Line" is set to be released on December 13. One of the pre-singles called "Watermelon Sugar" has a quite catchy and timeless vibe. And just when I was writing this I found out about "Lights Up", which I kind of forgot about. Oops.
█ Johannes Oerding rules the German album charts with "Konturen", followed by Summer Cem ("Nur noch nice") and Marius Müller-Westernhagen ("Das Pfefferminz-Experiment (Woodstock Recordings Vol. 1)"). Yung Hurn's "Y" only entered at number five.

New in the German charts:

[07] Apache 207 - Doch in der Nacht : This marks Apache's fourth track in this week's top ten! He kind of uses his hype well. The song isn't his strongest, though.
[09] Brado & Mero - Kafa Leyla : No, thanks. Just no.

Sunseeker (#605)

Hi,

so I just had a day off - and that means lateness here. ^^

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • BTS : Fan times.
  • Work Drugs : Fan times.
  • Pauls Jets : Concert context. What a lovely band. I had a blast at the gig - and it really made me dig into their sound once more.
  • Bear's Den : Fan times.
  • Various Artists like Ariana Grande and Donna Summer : The soundtrack for the upcoming "Charlie's Angels" film gets me really hyped.

Most played artists:

  • Sturgill Simpson : New album alert. "SOUND & FURY" took me by surprise. Considering the artist's previous releases had a big country vibe, this cleary marks some progress.
  • MONSTA X : I'm tempted to write "Fan times" here, but I guess, I am not yet at this point.
  • Saint Motel : Fan times.

Most played tracks:

  • Blaue Blume - Morgensol : This track really grew on me.

News?

█ The Naked And Famous are back - with a new single, called "Sunseeker". It comes with a colorful video - but still needs to convince me.
█ RAF Camora has a new number one album ("Zenit") - that is followed by Kerstin Ott ("Ich muss dir was sagen") and Faber ("I fucking love my life") in the German album charts.

New in the German charts:

[04] Nimo - Karma : Who? I guess he is the next pop rap star. The song seems okay, though.

Van Horn (#604)

Hi,

sorry, but this week I have to make this short.

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • grim104 : New release alert. His EP "Das Grauen, das Grauen" is not my cup of tea, even though there are some deep lyrics.
  • Half Moon Run : New album alert. I quite enjoyed "A Blemish In The Great Light".
  • MONSTA X : New release alert. "Follow - Find you" it the title of their latest mini album, which sounds okay. But the more shocking news is, that one of the members (Wonho) had to leave the group due to some legal problems.
  • Kim Hyun Joong : Recommendation context. A friend told me to try his 2013 EP "Round 3" and it sounds quite good, even after 6 years.
  • Saint Motel : New release alert. "The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack" is the first of 3 EPs, that will be collected as an album in 2020. And this first EP features some catchy tunes - "Van Horn" for instance.
  • Cigarettes After Sex : Their new music on "Cry" keeps growing on me.

Most played artists:

  • Faber : New album alert. "I fucking love my life" continues the style this artist has established for himself. Meaningful lyrics, great vocals and also some kind of traditional sound.
  • Blaue Blume : New album alert. "Bell Of Wool" left me a bit surprised, because I think that some songs work quite well.
  • Apache 207 : The hype is real. I've listened to "Platte" several times now. And it was fun, even though some lyrics are stupid.

Most played tracks:

  • MisterWives - The End : Oh what a bop.

News?

█ The 2019 MTV Europe Music Awards took place in Sevilla, Spain. Hosted by Becky G the 90 minute show saw some very expensive looking performances. Most of the wins seemed strategically spread. Overall I'd say there have been better years. But I'm still pleased to see BTS win two awards (Best Live and Best Fans). ^^
█ The K-Pop group Stray Kids lost a member. Woojin quit because of personal reasons. Their next album was re-scheduled to be released on December 9.
█ Of course, we had to have Die Toten Hosen top the German album charts with their latest compilation "Alles ohne Strom". And it doesn't get better, because that is followed by new entries by The Kelly Family ("25 Years Later") and Matthias Reim ("MR20"). Apache 207 only reached number 4.

New in the German charts:

[07] Selena Gomez - Lose You To Love Me : Hm. Why? This is not a strong track to my ears.
[09] reezy - Phantom (feat. Summer Cem) : Who?
