Heute mit mir (#481)

Hi,

oh, what a week that was. It startet with some nice days off - without any scrobbles. Then there were very busy days at work - including a Friday without interesting new albums. And then there was the weekend, which saw me attending a punk rock festival plus a rock concert (and party) - with little rest. So not only for any stats, but also for me, I hope the next week

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Cigarettes After Sex : Try their self-titled album.
  • The Birthday Massacre : "One" is a lovely song.
  • Rancid : see previous entry.
  • Phoenix : Try "Ti Amo".
  • Katy Perry : I am very happy with her new direction - despite some negative reviews.
  • HAIM : There new pre-single "Little Of Your Love" makes me curious about the upcoming album.
  • Parade Of Lights : Well, that "Touch" song doesn't do it for me... yet.
  • Gloria Estefan : New single alert. But that soundtrack short is very short.
  • Woodes : New single alert. Meh.

News?

█ It is festival season. Glastonbury shared some big acts. Also the Hurricane festival had a good line-up.
█ Who is Nimo? He just dropped an album called "K¡K¡", which entered the top 4.

New in the German charts:

[05] DJ Khaled - Wild Thoughts (feat. Rihanna & Bryson Tiller) : Meh. Seems like the Santana sample is a big deal.
[10] Nimo - Heute mit mir : Yuck! It's not the beat, it's not the autotune... it's the theme... and the terrible video.

Creature Comfort (#480)

Hi,

I have this day off... and I'm still so bury, it almost hurts. :P

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Blondie : Fan times.
  • The Blaze : Can you believe that I totally missed the "Territory EP"? Well, now that I've heard it, I consider myself a fan. They make wonderful electro sounds.
  • Rise Against : New album alert. After I've listened to "Wolves", I thought of this band as a harder version of the Goo Goo Dolls, but with different lyrics, of course. I guess, I'll do another try.
  • Beth Ditto : New album alert. "Fake Sugar" convinced me.
  • Lorde : New album alert. "Melodrama" has like 1 or 2 good songs. :/
  • Roger Waters : New album alert. "Is This The Life We Really Want?" - well, it clearly wasn't the album I really wanted. Quite exhausting.

Most played artists:

  • The Birthday Massacre : New album alert. "Under Your Spell" should make fans happy.
  • Phoenix : New album alert. As far as I can tell, the band wanted to make "Ti Amo" an italo pop record. And considering all the catchy tunes, they succeeded.
  • Rancid : New album alert. I was curious about "Trouble Maker" because of a very positive review. Well, I was a little underwhelmed.

Most played tracks:

  • The Birthday Massacre - One : Oy, what a tune. It's so rich of melodies. :)

News?

█ The new Arcade Fire video for "Creature Comfort" is awesome.
█ Bushido has a(nother) number one album - and Idc. :P
█ M.I.A. has a new song/video. "Finally" sounds very pop-like and the visuals come across very simple.

New in the German charts:

[03] David Guetta - 2U (feat. Justin Bieber) : WTF?
[08] French Montana - Unforgetable (feat. Swae Lee) : The video is two months old. Anyway, a nice production.
[09] Jonas Blue - Mama (feat. William Singe) : Urgs, this could have been a Justin Bieber outtake. Very annoying contemporary electro pop.

Thunder (#479)

Hi,

and another late entry. But trust me. I have my reasons. :/

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Cigarettes After Sex : New album alert. Now you can discover the beauty of their self-titled debut record. I'm totally hooked. This will be one of my favorite releases of 2017.
  • John Mayer : Chill times. Did I mention that I sometimes miss a kick-ass rock song by this artist - just like "Bigger Than My Body".
  • Goldfrapp : Chill times, too. But also fan times. :)

Most played artists:

  • Katy Perry : New album alert. "Witness" is a solid pop album. Not every track is a winner, but it's definitely fun to get to know.
  • London Grammar : New album alert. If you liked their first album, then you should be satisfied with "Truth Is A Beautiful Thing". The band delivers the sound fans expect. Although I'd like to hear some kind of uptempo song (just for a change), I'm happy with the new album.
  • SXTN : New album alert. "Leben am Limit" is my kind of hip-hop. Edgy themes, naughty lyrics and some badass party tunes.

Most played tracks:

  • The Naked And Famous - The Runners : It's the chorus. The backing vocals have such a nice harmony. :P

News?

█ The Gallagher brothers donate money from their income for "Don't Look Back In Anger" to that Manchester fund.
█ Marteria released a film called "Anitmarteria" on YouTube. The trippy mix of animation and modern film features nearly all of his new album "Roswell", which blends in very well.
█ Wow, I'm surprised that Kraftklub's "Keine Nacht für Niemand" made it to the top of the German album charts, despite Helene Fischer still selling strong.

New in the German charts:

[05] Imagine Dragon - Thunder : What? Did not see that coming. Is it part of some kind of commercial deal? Or is it the calculated catchy chorus? I thought this "band" was done, but now that they skip guitars, a pop era might begin. Anyway, the video is weird.

Herzbeben (#478)

Hi,

due to holiday business I'm a bit late this week.

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Bleachers : New album alert. "Gone Now" feels like a letdown. There are no songs as catchy as "Rollercoaster" or "Like A River Runs" on it. :(
  • Subsonic Eye : New album alert. "Strawberry Feels" (what a title) features nice alternative songs, but unfortunately no highlight.
  • Vita Bergen : New album alert. "Retriever" is short, but good.
  • Roosevelt : Fan times. The artist is still busy touring... but I'd love to have a new EP or something like that. :)
  • Roger Neill : Soundtrack context. At first, go see "20th Century Women". Second, that dreamy tune in the film isn't an Oldie or something familiar... it's by the score composer. :)
  • Blondie : Fan times. I can easily say that I've never enjoyed a Blondie album like "Pollinator".

Most played artists:

  • Cigarettes After Sex : Promotion context. During the first listening session I've had a feeling this could be good. As far as I can tell now, the self-titled album should make many people happy. :)
  • !!! : New album alert. Yes, there is a lot of funk and dance on "Shake The Shudder". But tbh it did not keep me investing much attention after the first half.
  • Land Of Talk : New album alert. Another alternative record, that caught my attention just out of curiosity, because I didn't know the band. "Life After Youth" sounds good - and it reminds me of Heather Nova.

Most played tracks:

  • Cigarettes After Sex - Each Time You Fall In Love : Oooh, was a song. I recommend it to anyone. And if you like it, be sure to check out the album.

News?

█ Liam Gallagher is back - now as a solo artist. "Wall Of Glass" starts the hype for his upcoming album "As You Were" (scheduled for an October release). The music video is full of rotating cameras, glass and mirrors. The song reminds me of Oasis... in a good way. He still has a decent voice.
█ Ohhh, Marteria didn't make it to the top of the German album charts. Instead Helene is back again.

New in the German charts:

[08] Helene Fischer - Herzbeben : Ha! I knew it. After lots of promotion gigs (like a football finale and a casting show finale) this track was ready for additional audiences, that might have not already known the hookline. And tbh this song did also grow on me a bit.
