Niemand bringt Marten um (#675)

Ahoy,

sorry for being this late.

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • BTS : Fan times. (Plus birthday context.)
  • Clean Bandit : Workout context. "New Eyes" is still a nice album.
  • Lydmor : New album context. "Capacity" has its moments, but it seems to have unused potential.
  • Julien Baker : New album context. Tbh I can't really recommend "Little Oblivions".

Most played tracks:

  • Aly & AJ - Pretty Places : This bop should get more hype. :)

Noteworthy:

  • Normandie : Fan times.
  • Jane Weaver : New album context. "Flock" was okay - but I already forgot most of it.
  • Nick Cave & Warren Ellis : New album context. A friend recommended "CARNAGE", but I didn't hear anything special.
  • Still Corners : "The Last Exit" has a wonderful opening track.
  • Masha Qrella : "Woanders" is just great.

Scrobble count: 171.728

News

█ The 63rd Grammy Awards took place last weekend - as usual in Los Angeles. Most wins went to Beyoncé, who has a new record now. Impressive perfomances included those from Dua Lipa and Cardi B.

█ Probably the most famous musician from my hometown made a comeback. "Niemand bringt Marten um" is the first Marteria single in a long time. The video features the artist with Monchi (of Feine Sahne Fischfilet) doing some sort of crazy boat trip.

Pay Your Way in Pain (#673)

Ahoy,

this week I have some more news.

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Roosevelt : New album context. "Polydans" turns out to be very nice, although it has a short track list. You can expect that to turn up on my best of 2021 list.
  • Masha Qrella : New album context. "Woanders" keeps me invested to get to know the songs better.
  • Naughty Boy : Workout context. I was listening to "Hotel Cabana" - and this one aged well.
  • nothing, nowhere : New album context. I'm not sure, if I found much good on "Trauma Factory" tbh.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

Noteworthy:

  • Psychedelic Porn Crumpets : New album contect. "SHYGA! The Sunlight Mound" surprised me with quite solid alternative rock songs.
  • Steven Wilson : New album context. "The Future Bites" is a mixed bag for me. But fans might enjoy it very much.
  • Blanks : Research context. I didn't know that he already released an album in 2020. So I checked out "Cheap Sodas and Ice Cream Kisses", which was okay.
  • FiNCH ASOZiAL : New album context. As controversial as this artist's reputation his new album "Fliesentisch Romantik 2" comes with different tracks, that might keep you sceptical.
  • Aurel Petronis : New release context. So this new EP "You" made me curious, as it might have some John Mayer vibes. Unfortunately I find it hard to enjoy the artist's vocals.

Scrobble count: 171.350

News

█ The 78th Golden Globe Awards took place. And music-related wins went to Jon Batiste, Trent Reznor & Atticus Ross for their "Soul" score - and to Laura Pausini for "Io sì (Seen)" (from the Film "The Life Ahead").

█ Lea Porcelain announced their second album "Choirs To Heaven" - to be released on May 21. The latest pre-single is called "Ohio".

█ Razz plan to release a new EP on June 18 - it's called "Might Delete Later". Let's hope their sound will not be too similar to Giant Rooks.

█ Due to some license things Spotify stopped providing a bunch of K-Pop music. Time will tell when it comes to a new agreement.

█ Recent media coverage led JYP Entertainment to suspending Hyunjin from Stray Kids. If he will leave the group permanently, is unclear at this moment. His youthful folly includes mobbing at school, which was made public in some sort of scandals in the K-Pop scene.

█ St. Vincent announced a new album. "Daddy's Home" is set to be released on May 14. The pre-single "Pay Your Way in Pain" comes with a flashy music video, that reminds me of the 70s.

Talk Tonight (#672)

Ahoy,

there is so much new music this week...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Normandie : New album context plus fan times. After listening to all of "Dark & Beautiful Secrets" for the first time, I'd say this is a nice progress. But I still need to get to know the tracks better.
  • Django Django : New album context. "Glowing In The Dark" has some stellar moments. Alternative fans should check this out.
  • MOD SUN : New album context. Tbh I already forgot most of "Internet Killed The Rockstar".

Most played tracks:

  • Fabian Friend - Talk Tonight : This bop keeps growing on me. And if I'm right, there'll be a second release soon. If you like Roosevelt music, you should give this a try! :)
  • Gorgon City & DRAMA - You've Done Enough : Yes, now this is how I like electronic music - call it house, EDM or whatever. A wonderful song!

Noteworthy:

  • Pale Waves : New album context. "Who Am I?" reminds me of early Avril Lavigne music. And I mean it in a good way.
  • SG Lewis : New album context. Alright, "times" blew me away. This (short) album seems like a party night with a private DJ. Okay, most of the tracks seem to refer to substance abuse, but in the end I enjoyed this album a lot.
  • Steiner & Madlaina : New album context. "Wünsch mir Glück" convinced me for the most parts. I intend to give it another spin soon.
  • slowthai : New album context. Tbh I knew, that "TYRON" would not be my cup of tea. And I was right. But hey, I wanted to listen to it just once.

Scrobble count:  171.156

News

█ BTS had their MTV Unplugged moment. One highlight was a Coldplay cover ("Fix You").

█ Germany's song for this year's Eurovision Song Contest has been revealed. "I Don't Feel Hate" is sung by a young artist called Jendrik. And if you can get through those 3 minutes without a cringe moment, I admire you. :(

New entries

[01] Schiller - Summer in Berlin : Oh, that is a surprise.

[02] Audio88 & Yassin - Todesliste : Congratulations.

[03] Vega - 069 : Hmkay.

[04] Solar Fake - Enjoy Dystopia : Who? What?

[05] The Pretty Reckless - Death By Rock And Roll : Okay.

[07] The White Stripes - Greatest Hits : Hm, this band is still relevant.

[08] Black Sabbath - Vol 4 : A re-entry.

Single charts (Germany)

[01] Nathan Evans - Wellerman : Oh no. :-/

[03] Jamule & Capital Bra - No Comprendo : No, thanks.

[08] Masked Wolf - Astronaut In The Ocean : Hm, I don't know.

[10] Zow Wees - Girls Like Us : Another newcomer. And this time it gets emotional. Has it blown up on TikTok yet?

Albums Chart Top 100 (UK)

[01] slowthai - TYRON : Congratulations.

[03] Pale Waves - Who Am I : Wow, I did not expect that.

[04] Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia : I'm sure this has the re-package context of a new edition.

We're Good (#671)

Ahoy,

sooic Monday" is now...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Roxette : Fan times. They really have some great ballads - for spending another Valentine's Day on your own.
  • McFly : Workout context. I was wondering who on earth can enjoy that many songs on "Memory Lane - The Best of McFly". It felt dragging.
  • Lady Gaga : Social media context. So there's this YouTube creator, that went through all of Lady Gaga's albums - and he concluded with a ranking. And to my surprise "ARTPOP" was his favorite. I enjoyed that fact so much, that I had to have a little re-visit. ^^
  • The Rubens : New album context. "0202" has such a nice bop called "Masterpiece", but all the other songs don't seem to come close to this one. That makes me sad, because I had high hopes. :(
  • Audio88 & Yassin : New album context. "Todesliste" comes with a lot of anger and a consistant sound. My favorite track is "Ende in Sicht".

Most played tracks:

  • Roosevelt - Lovers : New pre-single release. Unfortunately it seems a bit weaker than the previous pre-singles. But anyway - I am hyped for the new album dropping soon.

Noteworthy:

  • Videoclub : New album context. "Euphories" has its moments... but it could easily be an EP, if you cut out the bland tracks.
  • Odette : New album context. I was hoping to find some new nice indie tunes on "Herald", but I was a bit disappointed.
  • Deacon Blue : New album context. Yeah, I can't really say anything about "Riding On The Tide Of Love", but time went by quickly while listening to it.
  • We The Kings : New release context. Their latest EP "SAGA" sounds okay.

Scrobble count:  170.925

News

█ Cardi B's new music video (plus single) went a little viral. Tbh although it has some old school vibe, I don't like it much. And the video is way over the top.

█ Dua Lipa released yet another version of her album "Future Nostalgia". The new "Moonlight Edition" comes with new tracks. And "We're Good" has a nice music video with a twist at the end. But the song is not her best effort, if you ask me.

New entries

Album charts (Germany)

[01] Foo Fighters - Medicine At Midnight : Tbh I did not expect that.

[02] Swiss + die Anderen - Orphan : Okay. Respect.

[03] TransAtlantic - The Absolute Universe - The Ultimate Edition. Who?

[04] Andrea Berg - In Liebe - Ihre schönsten Liebeslieder : Yikes, another compilation.

[05] Fleet Foxes - Shore : I guess, this comes with a new physical release.

[06] John Williams / Wiener Philharmoniker / Anne-Sophie Mutter - John Williams in Vienna : Hmkay.

[07] Milliarden - Schuldig : Congratz.

[09] Dardan - Mister Dandy : Hmkay.

[06] Miksu / Macloud - Wenn sie ruft (feat. Veysel, KC Rebell, Ramo) : No, thanks.

[07] The Weeknd - Save Your Tears : A new peak in its 4th week - maybe thanks to a Super Bowl gig.

[08] The Weeknd - Blinding Lights : Welcome back in the top ten.

[09] Jalil x Bonez MC - NBA : Can somebody tell me the good parts of this track?

[10] Jason Derulo x Nuka - Love Not War (The Tampa Beat) : Yikes.

Albums Chart Top 100 (UK)

[01] Foo Fighters - Medicine At Midnight : Respect!

[02] The Weeknd - The Highlights : Yay.

[04] Black Country New Road - For The First Time : Who?

[05] Fleet Foxes - Shore : A re-entry.

Singles Chart Top 100 (UK)

[01] Olivia Rodrigo - Drivers License : Hmkay.

[05] Digga D x AJ Tracey - Bringing It Back : OK, new names to me. But it seems like gangster rap with an interesting flow.

[07] Tiësto - The Business : Oh, a new peak position for this track.

[10] HVME - Goosebumps : Who? Oh no, another "TikTok trend song". Well, it's not that bad. ^^

[03] The Weeknd - Blinding Lights : In its 62nd week! Amazing.

[04] The Weeknd - Save Your Tears : The latest peak position - in its 9th week. He deserves it, if you ask me.

Juno (#670)

Ahoy,

I guess the next part of "Award Season" will follow soon. But what else?

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Madonna : Fan times. And a review of her debut album on YouTube made me revisit this one. And I guess, it made me appreciate it more.
  • Arlo Parks : New album context. "Collapsed By Sunbeams" seems like a very good debut record. But I'm not sure, if I will revisit it often.
  • Celeste : New album context. With the exception of some bops, I'd say that "Not Your Muse" is not my cup of tea because of its jazz and soul influences.
  • Klaxons : Workout context. "Love Frequency" sounds okay, but it won't grow on me.
  • The Luka State : New album context. I can recommend "Fall In Fall Out" to all rock music lovers.

Most played tracks:

  • Running Touch - Juno : I think this will be my first bop of the year - at least the one, that I'm starting my playlist with. (And I don't know anything about this band.) :)

Noteworthy:

  • ENHYPEN : I revisited their debut EP - tbh there are just two songs standing out.
  • Still Corners : The title track of "The Last Exit" has grown on me.
  • GROUNDSTROEM : New release context. I was curious about his latest EP "Boy On The Moon", which seems like perfect teen pop. Maybe he will have a hit someday.

Scrobble count: 170.709

News

█ The biggest event in music must have been the Super Bowl LIV Haftime Show. The Weeknd did an amazing job with a great song selection. Unfortunately the mixing dude did a not so good job, because the vocals seemed a little quiet at times.

█ The nominations for the 78th Golden Globe Awards have been announced. Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross have two (of five) chances to win "Best Original Score" - for "Mank" and for "Soul". Among nominations for "Best Original Song" are "Fight for You" by D'Mile, H.E.R. & Tiara Thomas (from the film "Judas and the Black Messiah") and "Hear My Voice" by Celeste & Daniel Pemberton (from the film "The Trial of the Chicago 7"). The ceremony will take place on February 28.

█ Just a few days before the release of slowthai's new album "TYRON" a new music video went online - featuring Skepta. "CANCELLED" has a quite funny intro.

New entries

Album charts (Germany)

[01] Katja Krasavice - Eure Mami : Her second number one record. Hm.

[02] Accept - Too Mean To Die : Who? Nice title, but can somebody tell me, if I should try this?

[04] Stimmen der Berge - Ewige Liebe : I have no idea, but I don't want to know. Thanks.

[05] The Notwist - Vertigo Days : If I'll find the time, I'd love to listen to that.

[04] Steven Wilson - The Future Bites : Hm, I'm wondering, if this is a disappointing achievement for the artist.

[07] Chip - Snakes & Ladders : Who?

Singles Chart Top 100 (UK)

Discoteque (#669)

Ahoy,

what a week...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross : Research context. This duo provides one half of the soundtrack for Pixar's latest film "Soul". The better part, if you ask me. ^^
  • The Kid LAROI : Hype context. After listening to "F*CK LOVE (SAVAGE)" I can understand that he seems to be popular among young audiences.
  • Jon Batiste : Research context. The second half of the Soul soundtrack features heavy jazz tunes, that might challenge people like me. ^^
  • Lindsey Stirling : Workout context. I was revisiting her self-titled album, which still sounds nice. The later album "Shatter Me" is also okay.
  • Still Corners : New album context. "The Last Exit" took me by surprise, as it has some lovely songs on it - like the title track.

Most played tracks:

  • THE ROOP - Discoteque : What a nice bop. I can't tell if chances for the next Eurovision Song Contest will be good, but I'll keep this one in my playlists. :)

Noteworthy:

  • London Grammar : Flashback times. I love songs like "Sights" from their 2014 album "If You Wait".
  • Gloria Estefan : Flashback times. Can you remember "Reach"? What an anthem. I also found one of her slower tracks on "Greatest Hits Vol. 2" for a new playlist.

News

█ Stray Kids made a BTS move - they started using cartoon characters. They're called SKZOO and will soon be processed as merch.

█ Sam Feldt teamed up with Kesha for a new single called "Stronger". The typically EDM-infused pop song comes with a colorful music video, that sees two versions of Kesha fighting against each other.
