Ease My Mind (#713)

Ahoy,

it's beginning to look a lot like... holidays are coming. But so should some more vaccination appointments this year.

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • The War On Drugs : Research context. So I finally took some time to discover the previous albums by this band. "Wagonwheel Blues", "Future Weather" and "Slave Ambient" were okay, but I really liked "Lost In The Dream".
  • Court Yard Hounds : Workout context. I was listening to their self-titled album from 2010, which still is a fun collection of songs.
  • CHVRCHES : Fan times.
  • Laura Lee & The Jettes : New album context. I can recommend "Wasteland" to any indie alternative rock fans.

Most played tracks:

  • The Faim - Ease My Mind : What a bop. :)

Noteworthy:

  • La Roux : New release context. Her EP "Damaged Goods" comes with a bunch of remixes, but none of them could convince me.

We Are Not Alone (#712)

Ahoy,

this week I'm quite early - but research regarding Billboard charts seems challenging these days. I bet, we will soon see the return of Christmas classics among charts entries.

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Ye (Kanye West) : Hyped album context. So I made it through his latest album "Donda". Over 2 hours I got to listen religious chants and nowadays rap sounds. Tbh I wasn't impressed.
  • Coldplay : Workout context. I was listening to their third album "X&Y", which was released in 2005. I guess that one marks the point, where the band went in a more commercial direction.
  • Girlwoman : New album context. "Das große Ganze" features some nice downtempo indie pop tunes.

Most played tracks:

  • Nick Cave & Warren Ellis - We Are Not Alone : This song is part of a soundtrack. It fits the season.

Noteworthy:

  • Dave Gahan & Soulsavers : New album context. Unfortunately I did not like most of "Imposter".
  • Jon Batiste : Hyped album context. Because of his Grammy nomination I was listening to "WE ARE", which was okay.
  • WALK THE MOON : New album context. "HEIGHTS" comes with a nice mix of pop and alternative tunes.
  • Pip Blom : New album context. "Welcome Break" sounds nice.
  • Snail Mail : New album context. "Valentine" has its moments, but could not convince me.
  • Diana Ross : New album context. "Thank You" tries hard to please everyone. But if the artist wants to sound like that, I can forgive her. ^^

Scrobble count:  179.161

30 (#711)

Ahoy,

just a few more weeks and 2021 will be over...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • ATEEZ : Recommendation context. Because of an upcoming tour I was asked about joining friends attending a concert in Berlin. So I needed to check out their music - and it took just a few days to discover "ZERO : FEVER, Pt. 2", "ZERO : FEVER, Pt. 3" and "Into the A to Z". Some tracks are quite catchy.
  • Adele : New album context. I've never been the biggest fan, although I like her personality and her voice. And so I "30" did not give me much, because of too many ballads.
  • JEON SOMI : Resarch context. Sometimes I find a very positive review of a K-Pop album, which makes me curious. And so I've checked out "XOXO", which could not really convince me.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

Noteworthy:

  • The Attic Sleepers : Flashback times. I needed to calm my nerves a bit, so I put "Transit" in my playlist. A nice album.
  • Kylie Minogue : New (re-package) album context. Her compilation "DISCO: Guest List Edition" has a few new versions and remixes.
  • Diana Ross : New album context. I've started listening to her latest album "Thank You", which somehow tries to sound timeless.
  • Madonna : Fan times.

Scrobble count:  178.916

News

█ So I finally watched the 2021 MTV Europe Music Awards. The show had its moments. A nice range of music - and Saweetie was a good host.

█ Also the 2021 American Music Awards had a huge entertainment value. But sometimes it felt like artists wanted to distract from their music. And it seems funny for an American show to highlight a Korean group in that much.

█ Speaking of BTS - they are holding four concerts in Los Angeles - called "Permission To Dance On Stage".

New entries

Album charts (Germany)

[02] Michael Patrick Kelly - B.O.A.T.S : Okay.

[03] Schiller - Epic : Okay.

[04] Broilers - Santa Claus : What? They also made a Christmas record?

[07] Eric Clapton - The Lady In The Balcony: Lockdown Sessions : Okay.

[08] Taylor Swift - Red (Taylor's Version) : Okay.

3D Feelings (#710)

Ahoy,

yes, I'm a bit late again..

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Garbage : Fan times. I was checking out the "20 Anniversary Edition" of their third album "Beautiful Garbage", that came with bonus tracks and remixes. It was nice to revisit many songs, that I've known for years.
  • RIN : New album context. "Kleinstadt" did not provide the amount of catchy tracks that I was hoping for. But fans might be happy.
  • Colbie Caillat : Workout context. I was listening to her 2009 album "Breakthrough", which still sounds nice - in a relaxed retro way.
  • Curtis Harding : New album context. "If Words Were Flowers" was okay.

Most played tracks:

  • Alfie Templeman - 3D Feelings : A really nice track. :)

Noteworthy:

  • BANNERS : New releaes context. I can't say, if "It's Gonna Be Okay" should be considered an album, because it does not come with many tracks. But some of them sound good.
  • Joan As Police Woman : New album context. Together with Tony Allen and Dave Okumu there was this release "The Solution Is Restless", that could not convince me much.
  • Nation Of Language : New album context. Tbh I can't remember anything about "A Way Forward" already.
  • Kito : New release context. Her mini album "Blossom" might be a recommendation for indie pop fans.
  • M.I.L.K. : New album context. "Poolside Radio Vibe" has its moments, but I could have done without the instrumental tracks.

Scrobble count:  178.828

kindapeaceofmind (#709)

Ahoy,

I had a birthday, so I was more busy than usually...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Megan Thee Stallion : New album context. "Something For Thee Hotties - From Thee Archives" has a few nice tracks, but it feels more like a demo mixtape.
  • Parcels : New album context. "Day/Night" was not easy for me to listen to.

= (#708)

Ahoy,

I could have published this a bit earlier tbh...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Drake : New album context. Yuck, what was on my mind to listen to all songs of "Certified Lover Boy"? It was no fun.
  • Ed Sheeran : New album context. "=" has some nice bops, which kind of makes it my favorite Sheeran album right now.
  • Rudimental : New album context. "Ground Control" did not impress me much.
  • Sam Fender : Fan times.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here once more]

Noteworthy:

  • Boys Noize : New album context. I was surprised to finde out that "+/-" does not have many catchy songs for me.
  • Eurythmics : Fan times. I've found out that the 2005 Remaster version of several "Peace" tracks do not sound like the ones I have on CD. Sometimes that's interesting and in some cases it makes me sad.
  • Yokohomo : New album context. I had some hopes for "Narben", but most songs seemed forgetable.
  • Zaz : New album context. Most parts of "Isa" sound really nice.
  • Go Go Berlin : "Expectations" could make me a fan soon.

Moth To A Flame (#707)

Ahoy,

sooic Monday" is now...

My last week in covers:

Most played artists:

  • Lana Del Rey : New album context. "Blue Banisters" felt like a huge disappointment to me. I don't like her folk sounds.
  • Kacey Musgraves : I'm still getting to know her latest album "star-crossed".
  • Purple Disco Machine : New album context. "Exotica" comes with lots of dance tracks and most of them sound quite nice. "Dopamine" and "Playbox" are my highlights.

Most played tracks:

  • Swedish House Mafia & The Weeknd - Moth To A Flame : Ooh, what a nice collaboration. I don't know much about SHM's discography, but the song fits perfectly to the music style of The Weeknd. And the dreamy music video also elevates the track.

Noteworthy:

  • Face To Face : New album context. Tbh I've already forgotten most of "No Way Out But Through".
  • Labrinth : Workout context. Does anyone remember this artist? I was listening to his album "Electronic Earth", which aged quite well.
  • Isolation Berlin : New album context. I had a quite hard time listening to "Geheimnis" - especially the final track reminded me of certain vocal aspects, which I don't like when listening to Billie Eilish.
  • Go Go Berlin : New album context. "Expectations" turned out to be such a welcome surprise when it comes to indie pop sounds.
  • ENHYPEN : New album context. "DIMENSION : DILEMMA" delivers the kind of music, I would expect from a modern K-Pop debut album.
  • Sly Alone : New album and promotion context. I've never heard of this artist before. "Gesegnet" did not seem so original to me. The track "Pendel" sounds nice, though.

Scrobble count:  178.068
