Silver (#603)

Hi,

okay, o

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • White Reaper : New album alert. "You Deserve Love" sounds nice in terms of alternative rock.
  • Cigarettes After Sex : New album alert. "Cry" should please fans as well as people who haven't heard this band before.
  • Apache 207 : New album alert. "Platte" seems short, but it works for me.
  • TOMORROW X TOGETHER (TXT) : New album alert. So here we have their first comeback ever - after their debut in early 2019. Tbh I am not fully convinced at this point. But I will give their single "Run Away" another try.
  • clipping. : New album alert. I started to dig into their sound on "There Existed An Addiction To Blood", but I guess I won't finish the album, because I find it hard to enjoy.

Most played artists:

  • Madonna : Fan times. Plus flashback context. I was very happy to revisit "Ray Of Light". This is such a classic!
  • Neonschwarz : Concert context. I was listening to their latest album "Clash", which is pretty nice for a German hip-hop record featuring some political statements.
  • Niels Frevert : Concert context.
  • The Faim : New album alert.

Most played tracks:

  • MONSTA X - Alligator : I guess his is my favorite bop by this K-Pop group at the moment. I even consider playing it at a party.

News?

█ Kesha is back with new music. The singer announced a new album called "High Road". It should come with 15 tracks and will be released on January 10. The first pre-single "Raising Hell" seems to hint a return to her party pop days. Also her appearance has changed a bit, as you can see in the music video.
█ Louis Tomlinson (of One Direction) finally has a debut album in the works. "Walls" will be released on January 30. The latest pre-single "We Made It" comes with a nice music video and the sound reminds me of Oasis.
█ Conan Gray's latest single "Maniac" sounds like pure teen pop magic. And also the music video looks fun.
█ DMA'S have a new song. In "Silver" the band continues to use the amazing sound, that I love them for.
█ And the German album charts are topped by... Santiano ("MTV Unplugged"). Yikes. :-/

New in the German charts:

[01] Apache 207 - Wieso tust du dir das an? : Hm, tbh call me hooked. :P
[05] RIN - Keine Liebe (feat. Bausa) : Yuck, I don't like that song.
[09] Regard - Ride It : Oh, look at that. That's quite a good song (for a change).

Harleys In Hawaii (#602)

Hi,

I am sorry, but I did not feel like finishing this earlier.

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Bat For Lashes : The new album made me come back for another spin.
  • Data Luv : I returned to "GOAT" once more, to make sure I did not forget about the quality of most of his songs. (weak)
  • shi offline : New album alert. "golaya" sounds like an interesting mix of Die Antwoord and Björk. But I don't think that I need that.
  • Bec Sandridge : New album alert. "TRY + SAVE ME" sounds good, but not overwhelmingly.
  • Seeed : New album alert. "BAM BAM" left me cold most of the time, but "G€LD" sounds okay.
  • Foals : New album alert. "Part 2 Everything Not Saved Will Be Lost" did convince me. It's a good album. :)

Most played artists:

  • Slayyyter : New album alert. I heard about this artist and her self-titled album via one of the few review websites, that I follow. But after some tracks I already had to disaggree about the pop appeal. No, this is not my kind of pop music.
  • The Slow Show : Concert context.
  • Sam Fender : Fan times.

Most played tracks:

  • Blaue Blume - Vanilla : Wow. What a nice tune!

News?

█ Katy Perry released a new single. The accompanying music video for "Harleys In Hawaii" featured the fitting visuals - plus a shameless Cheetos plug.
█ RIN collaborated with Bausa. The track "Keine Liebe" samples an old Echt song and comes with a mediocre video. It's a pre-single for the upcoming album "Nimmerland" - out on December 6.
█ Robbie Williams will release a Christmas album on November 22. "The Christmas Present" features duets with artist like Rod Stewart, Bryan Adams and... Helene Fischer.
█ Selena Gomez has just returned with two singles/video. One more dramatic ("Lose You To Love Me") and a more confident one ("Look At Her Now"). Both videos are currently trending on YouTube.
█ Kummer went straight to the top of the German album charts.

New in the German charts:

[05] RAF Camora - Puta Madre (feat. Ghetto Phénomène) : Sorry, but I'd say that this is not his best work. And tbh I don't fully understand it.
[10] Tim Bendzko - Hoch : WTF. It seems like this artist is copying aspects of modern trap songs - and not the best parts.

GOAT (#601)

Hi,

and I am late again.
But hey, I found a crazy flashback track. Do you know MARTAY's "Gimme All Your Lovin (feat. ZZ Top)"? What a mix.

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • The Automatic : New album alert. Tbh "Signal" did not convince me.
  • BBMak : New album alert. "Powerstation" features a nice pop mix - because of its cheesy aspects it won't reach anyone. But I could easily listen to it.
  • DIIV : New album alert. "Deceiver" left me unimpressed.
  • Kummer : New album alert. "KIOX" has its moments, but overall I think this is not my cup of tea.
  • Schrottgrenze : Fan times.
  • Sheryl Crow : Fan times.

Most played artists:

  • Amber Run : New album alert. "Philophobia" has more to offer than I thought. I will definitely hear it some more.
  • Data Luv : New album alert. "GOAT" delivers what you would expect referring to the pre-singles. And it is very short, too.
  • Angel Olsen : New album alert. Tbh I thought it would be more difficult to get through this. Maybe I will listen to it more carefully once more.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

News?

█ Todrick Hall released a new video. "Dripeesha" features Tiffany Haddish and guest appearances by Wendy Williams and Jimmy Kimmel. The visuals fit to the previous clips for his Haus Party era.
█ Cher is touring through Europe these days - and Normandie just released a cover version of "Believe". It even comes with a nice live video.
█ Hot Chip released a new video for a special remix. "Spell (Superorganism Remix)" features guest vocals and the videos couldn't possibly have more color effects.
█ Did anyone doubt that Capital Bra would miss the chance to take over the top spot of the German album charts? (I'm wondering how this artist is covered in international markets.) Anyway, "Berlin lebt2" (by Capital Bra & Samra) is followed by Seeed's "BAM BAM" and some weird new album called "Feuervogel flieg" (by the Kastelruther Spatzen).

New in the German charts:

[01] Tones And I - Dance Monkey : And the latest dance anthem is back at the top.
[05] Capital Bra & Samra - Berlin lebt wie nie zuvor : Hm, no, thanks.
[08] Travis Scott - Highest In The Room : Despite the expensive music video I find only little to like about this song. But meh...
[10] Capital Bra & Samra - Tilidin : In its 16th week that song made it back to the top ten.

Hash Hash (#600)

Hi,

in the words of DJ Khaled: "another one". Yes, another landmark here. 600 postings within 11 years. Sadly this is the only blog I manage to maintain, because my time feels so limited for other blog activities. And this comes with some lateness, of course.
Let's see, how long you can read entries like this...

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • David Hasselhoff : New album alert. Tbh "Open Your Eyes" feels like a cheap move. Retro 80s sounds plus cover versions of established classics - I don't know, if this was necessary.
  • M83 : Still discovering their latest instrumental record.
  • Bear's Den : Fan times.
  • Armin Van Buuren : New single alert. "High On Your Love" features guest vocals by James Newman.
  • Brandy : New single alert. "Freedom Rings" marks her 25th anniversary in music.
  • Broken Bells : New single alert. "Good Luck" sounds not that special.

Most played artists:

  • Roosevelt : Fan times.
  • Mero : New album alert. "UNIKAT" had a chance to rule the album charts. But there's no good track on it.
  • Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds : New album alert. "Ghosteen" should please fans - and maybe find some new admirers, because of its epic sound.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

News?

█ TXT made a comeback trailer. So, yes, I'm hyped for "The Dream Chapter : Magic" - out on October 21.
█ Sido'new album "Ich & keine Maske" topps the German album charts, followed by the Super Deluxe Edition of "Abbey Road" by The Beatles - then Deichkind ("Wer sagt denn das?") and Mero ("UNIKAT").

New in the German charts:

[05] The Cratez x Bonez MC - Honda Civic : Tbh I think this is one of his weakest tracks. :(
[06] Sido - 2002 (feat. Apache 207) : Yikes, autotune does not really good in case of this artist. And it evens seems, that Sido is the feature guest on this track. Odd.
[07] RIN - Fabergé : Another weak track. :( "Oh Junge".
[08] SSIO - Hash Hash : Welcome back. And because some lyrics are way over the top, this kind of music seems funny.

200 km/h (#599)

Hi,

these days I'm very busy - and I mean that in comparison to the usual level of busy times. :-/ Wish me luck, that I can enjoy it a bit.

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Todrick Hall : New EP alert. "Haus Party 2" continues the path he started with part 1. Some nasty lyrics accompanied by dance pop tunes.
  • Palace Winter : Fan times.
  • Roosevelt : Fan times.
  • Sofi Tukker : Fan times.
  • Benjamin Francis Leftwich : His latest single "Elephant" shoudl please fans of mellow soft folk indie tunes - with some epic strings.
  • Cashmere Cat : New release alert. I've listened to a few tracks on "Princess Catgirl", but I can't recommend it much.

Most played artists:

  • Fitz & The Tantrums : New album alert. "All The Feels" did not really convince me. But tbh none of their albums did.
  • Deichkind : New album alert. "Wer sagt denn das?" surprised me. I can't remember having enjoyed a Deichkind album that much.
  • M83 : New album alert. "DSVII" sounds quite epic, but I guess it won't be for everybody.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

News?

█ I know I'm no stranger to K-Pop anymore, but a new group made me stop for a moment. TEEN TEEN are... three teens, who just released their video for "It's On You". And it comes with all the things you would expect from a K-Pop video in 2019. But tbh I'm a little shocked about their age.
█ I had no doubts that Shirin David's new album would top the German album charts - and "Supersize" does, followed by Thees Uhlmann ("Junkies und Scientologen"), Liam Gallagher ("Why Me? Why Not.") and Blink-182 ("Nine"). Also back in the game: Jeanette Biedermann ("DNA") at number 8.

New in the German charts:

[01] Capital Bra & Samra - 110 (feat. LEA) : Wow. 9 million views on YouTube within 10 days. And this marks his 16th number 1 single within 2 years. The song itself feels quite honest for a change.
[04] Apache 207 - 200 km/h : Tbh the more "hits" this artist has, the more I get curious about his album. Do I sense a fine layer of self-irony in his music?
[05] Bushido & Animus - Ronin : Hm, I won't deny that some effort was involved and his style still differs from all the autotune infused fast food tracks. But I'm not sure, whether that makes it better.
[06] Summer Cem - Summer Cem (feat. Luciano) : Sorry, but no... (bo-bobobo)
[07] RAF Camora - Adriana : I can't really explain, but it seems that I have a sweet spot for his music. This is another very catchy tune.
[08] Shirin David - Nur mit dir (feat. Xavier Naidoo) : WTF!? Why did she choose him? Anyway... a cheesy love song with an expensive looking video.

Wig (#598)

Hi,

it might be a little late, but I'd say that this entry is quite on time...

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Schrottgrenze : Promotion context. I was able to listen to "Alles zerpflücken" quite early and I think this album is great.
  • The Attic Sleepers : Fan times. Please try "Transit", if you haven't already.
  • Sam Fender : Fan times.
  • Goldfrapp : Fan times. I checked out "Supernature".
  • Sofi Tukker : New release alert. The EP "Dancing On The People" collects a few of their recent singles. Overall the songs do not convince me as much as "Tree House" did.
  • Céline Dion : New pre-singles! Most of them are very dramatic. Hm. -.-

Most played artists:

  • Goo Goo Dolls : New album alert. Hm, I expected a bit more. But maybe a few songs from "Miracle Pill" will grow on me.
  • Charli XCX : New album alert. "Charli" sounds okay, if you ask me.
  • Bat For Lashes : New album alert. "Lost Girls" left a very good first impression.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

News?

█ Todrick Hall released his new EP "Haus Party 2" and a new music video. "Wig" seems quite similar to "Nails, Hair, Hips, Heels", but I'd say it falls flat because of that.
█ Andreas Gaballier is at the top of the German album charts - with a Best Of compilation. Trettmann only reached number two, followed by Loredana and Die Lochis.

New in the German charts:

[01] Tones and I - Dance Monkey : Wow, they made it. Did not see that coming.
[03] Loredana - Genick : One of the better songs of the new album. And also a good looking video.
[08] Lindemann - Steh auf : This comeback seems like a surprise, because Rammstein is still successful with their new album. And tbh this song sounds a bit like Rammstein.
[10] Trettman - Zeit steht (feat. Alli Neumann) : To my mind that is one highlight of his new self-titled album. (The music video could be better, though.)

Carry Me Away (#597)

Hi,

some concert times lie ahead of me. So I hope to write a bit about that during the next weeks...

Last week in covers:

Noteworthy:
  • Sam Fender : New album alert. I was very hyped about "Hypersonic Missiles" and it did not disappoint a bit. What a great debut album!
  • Loredana : New album alert. After I've listened to Trettmann's self-titled new album, I thought it would be nice to give a (pretty similar) female artist a chance. So I checked out "KING LORI", which is okay, if you ask me.
  • The Slow Show : Fan times.
  • Enya : Fan times (and chill times).

Most played artists:

  • Post Malone : New album alert. "Hollywood's Bleeding" comes with some surprises and a bunch of catchy tunes. Also Post's vocals seem quite strong.
  • Killerpilze : New album alert. "Nichts is für immer..." marks the end of an era by this band, who is about to start
  • Sheryl Crow : In case you didn't know, I'm really into her new album "Threads".
  • Lana Del Rey : I like her latest album, too.

Most played tracks:

  • Post Malone - A Thousand Bad Times : One of those new catchy tunes by this artist. But it also has some message.

News?

█ John Mayer released a new single (plus video). "Carry Me Away" comes across like a mellow fun song for holidays. I can't wait to have it on my iPod.
█ Last Friday saw the release of the big soundtrack collaboration song "Don't Call Me Angel" by Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus and Lana Del Rey.
█ A German pop duo called Fantasy topps the album charts with "Casanova", followed by a music act called Dame. Wanda's new album "Ciao!" makes its debut at number 4.

New in the German charts:

[01] Loredana - Kein Plan (feat. Mero) : I respect her, but this collaboration seems weak. If it wasn't about some kind of hype...
[02] Capital Bra & Samra - Huracan : Ha! I had this feeling, that this song would not make it to the top. And I was right. (And the sound is still not my cup of tea.)
