News

█ Missy Elliott went on tour again - but all dates seem to cover North America only. You can find some videos on social media to see the stage production and her outfits.

█ Katy Perry's new music video for "Woman's World" once again features her in a glossy production with CGI and all that stuff. But the song itself could be stronger, although it fits to Cher's track back then.

█ Kylie Minogue teamed up with Bebe Rexha and Tove Lo for the track "My Oh My", which sounds quite cheap tbh.

Heartbreaker (#847)

Ahoy,

just a bit late, again...

Scrobble count:  199.556

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Kygo : New album context. His self-titled release left me surprisingly cold, because no track stood out.

• Sea Girls : New album context. "Midnight Butterflies" starts strong, but after a while the music gets less creative.

• Orville Peck : New album context. "Stampede: Vol. 1" is too much Country for my mind.

• Roxette : Fan times... and flashback times. Despite its ugly cover artwork their 1994 release "Crash! Boom! Bang!" really has some gems.

Most played tracks:

• Purple Disco Machine & Chromeo - Heartbreaker : What a nice collabo track. PDM has a moment this year.

• HGich.T - Lenovobeach : I know I could get cancelled for this - but I really like that track.
• The Dare - Perfume : Wow! Songs like this give me hope, that modern music can be creative! Daring even!

Noteworthy:

• Bear's Den : Fan times.
• The Slow Show : I needed something to calm down. So I was listening to "Still Life".

• John Mayer : Fan times.
• Shaznay Lewis : Still going back to her new songs from time to time.

MR BUS DRIVER (#846)

Ahoy,

catching up a bit...

Scrobble count:  200.629

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Charli XCX : Another spin for "BRAT", but tbh "Van dutch" stays the best song.

• Trent Reznow and Atticus Ross : That fine "Challengers" score.
• Stray Kids : Via YouTube reactions I got reminded of their highlight era around the albums "GO LIVE" and "IN LIFE".
• Sheryl Crow : New album context. It took quite a while until I remembered to listen to "Evolution", but unfortunately I hardly like any song on it.

Most played tracks:

• bbno$ - IT BOY : One of the best songs of 2024.
• Nova May - MR BUS DRIVER : A nice party bop, that might remind of Kesha, Lady Gaga or Britney Spears.
• Purple Disco Machine & Benjamin Ingrosso - Honey Boy (feat. Nile Rodgers & Shenseea) : Another top track of the year.

Noteworthy:

• Marcus & Martinus : New album context. Fans might enjoy "Unforgettable", but I did not find any highlight song on it - not even that track with bbno$.
• Royal Republic : New album context. "LoveCop" starts strong, but the second half does not add anything.
• Zoot Woman : New album context. "Maxidrama" should please fans, but I was hoping for more.
• Angélica Garcia : Hype context. Friends of mine really like her music, but I am not that convinced of her latest album "Gemelo".
• Peggy Gou : New album context. Tbh I only like her "nanana" track on "I Hear You".
• Agust D : Fan times.

News

█ Purple Disco Machine did another collaboration - this time with Chromeo. And the sound result could not be more fitting. Also the music video looks fun.

Ahoy,

some more catching up...

Scrobble count:  200.429

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Madonna : Fan times.
• James : Recommendation context. I was listening to the album "Yummy", which has its moments, but I also got bored a bit.

• Alfie Templeman : New album context. "Radiosoul" seems quite creative, but if you like the pre-single "Hello Lonely" you might get a little disappointed.

• Sofi Tukker - Spiral : A nice bop, that makes me get excited for their upcoming third studio album "Bread".
• Frances Forever - Mr. Man (feat. Miya Folick) : An nice empowering alternative track.

• Madonna - Looking For Mercy : I needed something to keep me calm and focussed.

Noteworthy:

• Pet Shop Boys : Fan times.
• Shaznay Lewis : Fan times.
• Troye Sivan : Hype context. I was attending his concert in Munich. The setlist was shorter than I expected, with me hoping it would include "IN A DREAM". But the energy was really great.
• Charli XCX : She released a second version of her latest album "BRAT" with three more songs, that are not that special.

News

█ I just came across the new song "Look At That Woman" by ROLE MODEL - and not only does it come with a funny music video, but also a nice laid back vibe.

【04】 6 PM Records / Ski Aggu / Haaland936 / Sira - Junge Baller : Hmkay. A simple (and short) party banger track.

【06】 Aitch / Luciano - Baddies : A strange collaboration for this football and party themed track, that comes with a strong beat and a children choir sample.

【07】 Ayliva - Beifahrer : Did I expect an emotional ballad? Yes. Did I get it? Yes. Do I like it? Not really, because the lyrics do not touch me. But the production sounds good.

Spiral (#844)

Ahoy,

catching up quite a bit once more...

Scrobble count:  200.328

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• RM : New album context. "Right People, Wrong Place" may seem very creative and a collaboration with Little Simz did surprise me. But due to the lack of pop-friendly tunes I'm not sure, how it will find audiences besides the BTS ARMY. (Though this many people might already suffice.)

• Charli XCX : New album context. "BRAT" has now been released in two versions. And I still love "Von dutch". But tbh I haven't found more nice highlights tracks yet.

• Roosevelt : Fan times. It's been a while since I last enjoyed his earlier music.
• siovo : Research context. I came across this artist via social media - and his latest single "Fremde bleiben" has some catchy elements, although I would not really call it a party track. And that is why I did a deep dive in his earlier songs - to maybe find something for a CSD playlist.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here]

Noteworthy:

• John Mayer : Fan times.
• Shaznay Lewis : I gave her latest release "Pages" another try.

News

█ Ariana Grande has released a new music video for "the boy is mine" - featuring Brandy and Monica, who also collaborated on a remix version. The video seems quite cinematic showing the singer as some kind of criminal investigator and catwoman.

█ Sofi Tukker collaborated with Heidi Klum for their latest pre-single of the upcoming third studio album "Bread". The latest pre-single "Spiral" comes with a fun video. And the track seems to be featured on the tv show "Germany's Next Topmodel".

LUBE (#843)

Ahoy,

last week I was listening to so many different songs, that there's practically just one album among the cover compilation image...

Scrobble count:  200.179

Last week in covers:

Most played artists:

• Niko B. : New album context. "dog eat dog food world" is a major disappointment to me - because I only like "trespass coat".

• Madonna : Fan times.
• Pet Shop Boys : Fan times.

Most played tracks:

[nothing to highlight here this week]

Noteworthy:

• Bear's Den : Fan times.
• Adam Lambert : New release context. A double single with the tracks "LUBE" and "WET DREAM" just came out. The latter song was teased on social media and could be found on his soundcloud for weeks or months. The new songs have a strong electronic or EDM vibe.

• Agust D : Fan times.
• Angélica Garcia : Recommendation context. I was checking out her new song "Gemini", which did not convince me the first time - but I guess it could grow on me.

• BTS : Flashback and fan times. Their 2018 LY era was such a peak.

• METTE : I love her song "BET".
• Miraa May : Spotify mystery context. So I found a playlist in my Spotify library, that I could not explain. Anyway - this artist was among the songs ("Regardless").

News

█ Eminem generated some hype because of a new release, that seems to be a sequel to his 2002 song "Without Me" - especially when you see the music video. So we better expect "Houdini" to appear on some charts soon, because it reached tens of millions of YouTube views within days. His next album "The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce)" will be released this Summer.
